What a lot of little bodies there are at Christ the Lord and how they are loved! Under the watchful eye of Diane Thomas, Director of Children’s Ministry, programs are offered which teach the faith, nurture joy and security and fill the halls with laughter and noise!

Our Children’s Ministry Fosters Love of Christ

Our Children’s Ministry programs are designed to foster a love of Christ and develop a strong sense of friendship among peers. Sunday school, Friends of Faith and Vacation Bible School teach the children valuable Bible lessons while nurturing relationships between friends. The loving volunteer staff provides a warm safe environment for the children to grow in their faith. Designed for children birth through fifth grade, Children’s Ministry offers a wide range of programs and activities for kids and their families.

Bibles for Second Graders

At Christ the Lord, we believe putting the scripture into the hands of young children is a valuable gift on their journey of faith. Each September, the congregation presents all second grade students with a Bible. This serves a reminder to the students the importance of God’s word in their lives. What a very special occasion it is when a child receives their first Bible. If you have a second grade student, please contact the church office, Diane Thomas, or sign up outside the Children’s Ministry office.

Children’s Chimers

Children in first through fifth grades are welcome to participate in the Children’s Chime Choir, which meets on Sundays at 11:00 am. The Chimers share their music with the congregation several times a year during church services.

First Communion Preparation

First Communion classes are generally start in March  from noon to 1:30 p.m. in room 9 at church. Classes are for youth 10 years old or older or in the fifth grade. There will be a Seder meal at the church in April after the classes finish. This is the meal Jesus celebrated with his disciples at the Last Supper. First Communion Sunday is in April usually at the 10 a.m. service. A letter is sent to parents in February. If you have a child fitting these requirements or did not receive a letter, please contact Janice Aldridge at the church office.

Imagination Dancers

The Imagination Dancers present a worship dance in church, typically during the 9:00 and 10:00 services one Sunday in the fall and one in the spring.  They also present a celebration of liturgical dance during the Children’s Christmas Program each December.

Practice is on Sunday mornings from 11-12 at the church. Thirty minutes of ballet technique  and 20 minutes of choreography for presentations during worship.  Class concludes with a reverence to thank our Heavenly Father and prayer.

Servant Camp for Preteens

As a week-long day camp during the summer, rising fifth, sixth and seventh graders benefit from experiences in outreach and adventure. Each day the children serve at various organizations for approximately 3 to 4 hours per day. After lunch, the group participates in fun activities like laser tag and bowling. A daily group devotion is planned to familiarize the children with God’s Word about service to others. The cost is limited to the activity fees.

Sunday School & Adaptive Sunday School

Weekly, during the school year, our children learn about Jesus, connect with friends, and experience Christ’s love through dedicated teachers. At 10:00, Sunday school classes are available for age 4 through 12th grade.

We have an Adaptive Sunday School class for students (children, youth, and young adults) needing special assistance in the classroom. Trained professionals staff the classroom and lead the group in weekly Bible lessons and activities. The class meets from 10:00 – 12:00 on Sundays and may be attended for one hour or two. A parent or relative must be in the church building while the student is attending the class.
