The Basics

A Word from Pastor Brad

“Once you have made the World an end, and faith a means, you have almost won your man, and it makes very little difference what kind of worldly end he is pursuing. Provided that meetings, pamphlets, policies, movements, causes, and crusades, matter more to him than prayers and sacraments and charity, he is ours—and the more ‘religious’ (on those terms) the more securely ours. I could show you a pretty cageful down here,” -CS Lewis, The Screwtape Letters

In The Screwtape Letters, CS Lewis imagines the journey of life and faith, with all its temptations and failings, from the devil's point of view. Screwtape, a demon that holds an administrative position in the bureaucracy ("Lowerarchy") of Hell, acts as a mentor to his nephew Wormwood, a young tempter new to the business. It is a wonderfully instructive book that highlights how easily humans can be led astray. The observation by Screwtape quoted above is one that I think is especially true today. The church is not about championing causes but about experiencing the living God embodied in Jesus Christ. The disciplines of the church such as prayer, scripture, worship, and the sacraments are the foundation of our life and the basis for all we do. Lent is the season to get back to the basics of spiritual practice so that we are not led astray by even the noblest of causes.

In His Service

Pastor Brad

It is Official

This past Sunday, Pastor Bradley Eidson was installed as the Pastor of Christ the Lord Lutheran Church. Church member, Pastor Dale Sillik offered a sermon, and Brett Swartz, Chairperson of the Call Committee on behalf of the congregation extended the call. Pastor Jonathan Hemphill, assistant to the Bishop was on hand to make it official. Pr. Brad and his family were overwhelmed with the attendance and support of so many from the congregation. If you were unable to be here in person we invite you to watch the recording of the service on our YouTube channel (here)

Please utilize neutral colors and make the prayer shawls at least six feet in length. Completed shawls can be brought to the church office or given to any staff member. Email Juanita Hood if you have any questions.

Join the Care Team

The Care Team is being rebuilt. This group of servants will be on call to provide meals, send cards, provide rides or sit with folks experiencing hardship. They will also help to stay connected with members who are unable to attend services in person. If you have served in the past or if you would like to join the team, please email Lori Leberman, Outreach Ministry Chairperson.

Our Toilet Paper Drive is

Scheduled for April

On April 30, Christ the Lord will collect toilet paper for the Lawrenceville Co-Op. This obviously needed item is seldom donated at the co-op. They depend heavily on drives like ours to supply the needs of their clients. In the past, we have contributed enough TP to last months at the co-op. Let’s make this a great year and TP drive to top the others. Our goal this year is 2023 rolls. Can you help us reach our goal? Bring in Toilet paper on Sunday, April 30.

Timothy Keller, the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, addresses the frequent doubts that skeptics, and even ardent believers, have about religion. Using literature, philosophy, real-life conversations, and potent reasoning, Keller explains how the belief in a Christian God is, in fact, a sound and rational one. To true believers he offers a solid platform on which to stand their ground against the backlash to religion created by the Age of Skepticism. And to skeptics, atheists, and agnostics, he provides a challenging argument for pursuing the reason for God.
