On Taking up the Cross
In his book, Loving Jesus, Dr. Mark Allan Powell tells a story about a deeply spiritual man whom he met at a Christian rock festival. The man was deeply faithful. He read his Bible every day and prayed multiple times a day. When Dr. Powell asked him about church, he said that he hadn't been able to find a church that wasn't boring or that spoke to him. The conversation ended with the man telling Dr. Powell, "Maybe when I'm older, I'll get more out of it, or maybe the church will, you know, lighten up or something."
Dr. Powell thought about it overnight and then got back to him:
"Do you love Jesus?" Dr. Powell asked.
"Yes, I do. I love him with all my heart." Replied the man.
"Would you die for him?" Dr. Powell continued.
"Yes, I would." The man answered.
"You would die for him, but you won't be bored for him?"
Jesus tells us to, "take up our cross and follow him." As disciples we often envision this to mean grandiose works of faith or martyrdom. But what if taking up our cross could be as simple as being bored at church? After all, Sunday is the Lord's Day and we come to the House of the Lord to give thanks and praise to the one who took up the cross for us and for our salvation.

Sweet Summertime
We know many families take advantage of the summer break from activities to travel or enjoy downtime. Stay connected while you are enjoying your family time.
Remember to support your church while you are away. The best way to help CTL stay on track with meeting our obligations is regular, consistent giving. If you haven't already done so, please take the time to make a plan for providing your offering.
There are several ways you can make your offering to Christ the Lord:
· Email Brandon Witt, CTL Treasurer and he will help you set up recurring giving using Simply Giving through Vanco.
· Use your bank's online bill pay feature to set up recurring giving.
· Mail a check to Christ the Lord Lutheran Church. We have a secure mailbox at 1001 Duluth Highway, Lawrenceville Ga 30043
· Make it a habit to make an offering during online worship or drop it in the offering plate on Sundays.
· Or give by debit or credit card from our website here.
