Reset
A Word from Pastor Brad
|
|
Is there anything new under the sun? "The inclination of the human heart as evil", is a thought we are pondering. The Christian, especially the Lutheran tradition, takes an honest, dim view of the darkness of the human heart. We are a people with a propensity to evil grounded in our fears and self-centered pride. The gospels tell us that Jesus knows what is natural in all of us, and it is not good. His instruction to Nicodemus is that we must be born, not again, but anew. We must be restarted in a new life by the transformative power of God’s Spirit.
Luther, in his explanation of the sacrament of Holy Baptism, writes, “It indicates that the Old Adam in us should, by daily contrition and repentance, be drowned and die with all sins and evil desires; and that a new man should daily emerge and arise to live before God in righteousness and purity forever.” Baptism isn’t a one-time reset. It is a daily reset that enables us to live as people unafraid and selfless because we hope in the one who died for us and was raised.
Grace and Peace
